2015 musical acts announced!
Music is such an important part of the Fine Arts Fiesta, and we’re proud to announce some of our 2015 headliners.
The MIZ Quintet will perform Friday, May 15. MiZ is a soulful, Rock-Americana artist from Northeast Pennsylvania who is known as a skillful and well rounded master of both acoustic and electric guitar. His sound is directly impacted by the coal mining region of PA and the songs evoke the rustic tones and imagery you would expect from the region and it’s cultural heritage. The singer / songwriter / guitarist Mike Mizwinski gives name to the band and his solo work and it is his heart and soul– poured into the words and his guitar– that drives it all forward. We use the term singer/songwriter loosely here, as a MiZ show can feature anything from blazing fast, intricate instrumental guitar compositions, to foot stomping bluegrass, indie but soulful ballads of lost love, and a melting pot of different styles- textures- flavors- and feels. Mike has maintained a freshness, a vibe, something, that keeps fans coming back for more. MiZ has opened for America, The Wallflowers, Derek Trucks Band, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Blues Traveler, Shawn Colvin, Lyle Lovett, Leon Russell, Railroad Earth and many more. Mike has played over 450 shows since 2010 spanning from Berlin Germany -Northern Canada – Los Angeles – Austin, Texas – New York City and everywhere in between. He has played onstage with artists such as America, Umphrey’s McGee, Donna Jean Godchaux, members of THE BAND, Ratdog, moe., Particle, String Cheese Incident, New Riders of the Purple Sage, Marc Ford + more. The past 3 summers proved to be some of the most rewarding times in the artist’s career as MiZ was invited to play the Allman Brother’s- Peach Festival (every year and counting), and the Gathering of the Vibes in Bridgeport CT, amongst many others. Mike is now endorsing Framus/Warwick guitars and won the Tri-State Indie “Acoustic Artist of the Year” award two years in a row- 2011 & 2012.
Frank Shiner will also perform Friday, May 15. The arc of Frank Shiner’s musical artistry swings in that special place where his lifetime of experiences in singing and acting are able to breathe together and tell a story. “As a student of Shakespeare,” Shiner explains, “as a student of language, the song is a play, and the lyric is the most important thing to me. If a pretty sound comes out after that, it’s a bonus, never the goal.” Shiner is that rare performer whose delivery evokes a certain classiness associated with Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin, and Mel Tormé. Yet Shiner is lyrically rooted in the generation that belongs to Paul Simon, Tom Waits, Van Morrison, and Randy Newman, just a few of the composers whose work is showcased by the singer.
